5 bells

5 Bells Nether WallopThe Five Bells is the quintessential village pub where local people mingle with visitors whilst drinking real ales and carefully selected wines in a pleasant ambience. Recently purchased and redecorated by local residents, 5 Bells retains the warmth and charm of a cosy English pub.

The 5 Bells is found in the Hampshire village of Nether Wallop just to the west of the old market town of Stockbridge, famous for its connection with the River Test and the art of fly fishing.  It is believed that the building was first established during the 17th century and once served as a coaching house on the secondary coaching routes, the pub is just to the north of the original London to Exeter road (A30).  During the Battle of Britain it was a haunt of aircrew of 604, 609 and other fighter squadrons from nearby RAF Middle Wallop airbase, which is now the the home of the Army Air Corps. Memorabilia still exists within the pub that is a key to this period of its history.

The Five Bells is an aviator friendly pub, we also appreciate classic cars and will always welcome owners and their vehicles as well as car clubs for whom we have adequate private parking.

The village of Nether Wallop will be recognised by fans of Agatha Christie and the original BBC series Miss Marple, starring Joan Hickson.  The house used as Miss Marple’s home is just two doors away from the 5 Bells; the square is recognisable from many of the scenes shot there; and the 11th Century Saxon Church is clearly identifiable as the Parish Church in the series.  The interior of the 5 Bells was used in many of the indoor scenes.

The 5 Bells thrives today as a traditional village pub, our restaurant has been refurbished and now serves excellent lunchtime food, using locally sourced produce whenever possible. A superb location for walks, cycle or horse rides around the village and surrounding countryside, you are always assured of a warm welcome at The 5 Bells; we like well behaved dogs and children too!.
