5 bells

5 Bells Nether WallopA fantastic local pub with an outstanding Nepalese restaurant. Not only do we sell good beer and superb Nepalese food the 5 Bells retains the warmth and charm of cosy English pub.

The 5 Bells is found in the Hampshire village of Nether Wallop just to the west of the old market town of Stockbridge.  It is believed that the building itself was fist established during the 17th century and during its time has served as a coaching house on the secondary coaching routes, the pub is just to the north of the original London to Exeter road (A30).  During the Second World War it was a haunt of the RAF personnel based at what was then the Nether Wallop fighter station, this has since transformed into an Army Air Corps base in what is now known as Over Wallop. Memorabilia still exists within the pub that is a key to this period of its history.

The village of Nether Wallop will be recognised by fans of the original BBC series Miss Marple starring Joan Hickson.  The house used as Miss Marple’s home is just two doors away from the 5 Bells; the square is recognisable from many of the scenes shot there; and the 11th Century Saxon Church is clearly identifiable as the Parish Church in the series.  The interior of the 5 Bells was used many of the indoor scenes.

The 5 Bells still thrives today as a traditional village pub that serves excellent Nepalese food. The 5 Bells welcomes those from further a field to sample the Nepalese cuisine.
